We said a fond farewell to the Big Island this morning, catching a flight back to the island of Oahu. The departure lounge at Hilo was perhaps one of the most decadent ones we had seen during our travels!
Upon landing in Honolulu we jumped on an airport shuttle and went back to the International Hostel in Waikiki downtown, where we had stayed previously.
After checking into the hostel we booked a hire car for tomorrow, to drive around the island…as we hadn’t got out of Waikiki the last time we were here! We then had an afternoon of wandering, before coming back to the hostel and doing our laundry.
This evening we had a rare treat, our first evening out in the U.S. It was Ben’s choice of restaurant tonight, and he had chosen ‘Burger in Paradise’, a typical Hawaiian/American style diner serving killer burgers!
As promised, we got our Hawaiian glad rags on and hit the town…what does everyone think of Ben’s ‘Aloha’ shirt?!??
At Burger in Paradise our keen and friendly waiter served us a special cocktail each, a Mai Tai in a entertaining pineapple beaker. Don’t worry folks we will be bringing these home with us, and anyone who fancies cocktails at Fenton Towers will now get it in a Hawaiian jug!!
Our burgers were heavenly! What was quite amusing was that our window seats were overlooked by a gym, complete with crazy folks working out at 10pm…we could see their mouths watering from where we sat!
