Friday – ‘Meke Night’ with the local villagers

Today slipped by much the same as yesterday; breakfast, beach, swim, lunch, beach, swim!

The highlight by far was a visit from the local villagers at 7pm, for ‘Fijian Night’, with a traditional Meke.

It was great fun watching village members of all ages sing and dance, some of which we recognised as staff from the resort.

One thing that has struck us here is that Fijian people are always happy, smiling and friendly, and this came across more than ever in the song and dance we were lucky enough to watch.

They were very keen on audience participation, and it wasn’t long before Nicola was up joining in in the Fijian Conga!  Sorry, no photographic evidence as it snaked around the resort and Ben lost sight of her…maybe next week!

Dinner tonight was a traditional Fijian buffet, which had been cooked in the embers of a fire behind our sun loungers all day…needless to say, after smelling the delicious aromas of beef, chicken and fish all afternoon we were raring to tuck in!
