Wednesday...train to Singapore

Today was to prove a long day traveling, and take us into country number 6!  We got up at 6:15am and checked out of the hotel, and caught the metro to Kuala Lumpur central train station.  We had been told to get there 1 hour before the train was due to leave, however unfortunately it was delayed (or as the announcer liked to state 'rescheduled'), so we eventually left 35 minutes later than scheduled.  Luckily it allowed us enough time to grab a KFC breafast which was conveniently located next to the departure gate!

Once on the train in our 2nd class carriage we settled down with ipods on and chairs reclined for our 7 and a half hours journey south towards Singapore.  As we click clattered down through the length of Malaysia it was quite bumpy and noisy, thanks to the standard issue young screaming child that seemed to accompany us on any form of public transport we have taken!!  Luckily for us through we had no seats in front of us, so Ben and his long legs were more than happy stretching out.

At 4:30pm we reached the Malaysian border, and stayed put as the border guards came on the train to stamp us out of the country.  Then we made the short 5 minute journey across the bridge to Singapore (Woodlands) to dismount the train and enter the official personality-less hall that was the Singapore border.  Once through immigration and customs we got back on the train and traveled the short half an hour journey to central station.  The other train that ran on the line we had taken was obviously the glamorous Eastern and Oriental express...sadly this was not in our budget!

The next leg involved walking, MRT ride and walking again before we finally arrived at our place of rest for the next 5 nights...the Mitraa Hostel in Little India.  We ventured out for a quick bite to eat before bed at the local food court and opted for the asian pancakes...Ben however was eyeing up the frog porridge for another night (watch this space)!!
