Saturday...the journey South

Today was a day of transition; from country to city, and cool to hot and humid!

We started our day with a healthy breakfast at the guesthouse and then toddled down to the tourist information building where we were to catch our bus.  We had decided to pay a couple extra pence and upgrade to the luxurious 'Super VIP' bus...which on it's arrival did not disapoint!  With lounger seats that were wide enough to fit two people in and ample leg room we were both over the moon.

The other bonus of this trip down hill (excuse the pun) was that we had a very safe and sensible bus driver...probably the first one we had encountered on our whole trip so far!  We drove at a leisurely pace around the tight bends and switch backs - where 20 kms took 1 hour, but allowed us to take in the amazing scenery.

After a brief stop before we got on the motorway which allowed us to appreciate just how cool it was at higher altitude, we were off speeding southwards to Kuala Lumpur.

The big city appeared as a mirage out of the fields of palm trees that lined the road, and soon we were heading in on one of the many fly overs.  By 2:30pm we were off the bus and walking complete with bags on back towards our next accomodation - which conveniently was in the middle of the throbbing Chinatown.  As we walked down the buzzing Petalling Street we realised we were right in the middle of one of KL's biggest street markets - the atmosphere was crazy!

Checked into the D'Oriental Hotel and bags half unpacked we decided to head out and explore the area, and sample the local dishes at a street stall...early to bed though as we had an early start planned for Sunday!
