Saturday - Sentosa and the city by night

Today we had decided to escape from the city centre and catch the MRT to the island theme park of Sentosa.  Nestled off the coast of Singapore Sentosa was a big kids playground, unfortunately though most of the big rides were out of our price range so we settled with the 'Faces of Singapore' exhibition, which took us through the intricate history of Singapore, told through the people that made that history happen.  It was a fascinating showcase, and had both of us captivated with the long history of the country.

Next was the 110 metres tall 'Tiger' sky tower, with the tallest viewing platform in Singapore, and views as far afield as Malaysia and Indonesia.  The viewing platform sprialled up the tower and gave us perfect 360 degree views out across the city and across the Malacca Straits and South China Sea.

We headed back into the centre of the city later that evening to take in the sights by night, as all of the major buildings were illuminated with bright light shows. First we wandered down to the harbor front and saw the famous skyline (right). Our walk took us along the Padang, overlooking the Theaters On the Bay complex, and the Singapore Flyer (the big wheel in the background of the above picture).

Then through the colonial district and onwards towards Singapore's famous shopping street Orchard road, where the lights were dazzling.  Street performers were professional set-ups and the size of the major brands was incredible!!

This to us had become the city that never sleeps, as we glanced at our watches and realised we had been out walking for 9 hours we figured it was about time for bed...and at 10pm-ish we headed back to the hostel for some well earned rest.
