Tuesday...the botanical gardens

After breakfast we headed to the Komtar bus station to figure out what bus we needed to get to the Botanical Gardens (where we were hoping to then make our way to the top of Penang hill).  A short wait and our bus appeared and we jumped on, taking the 1 hour scenic trip to the Botanical gardens at the foot of Penang hill.  Unfortunately our budget could not justify the 90 ringgit (18gbp) jeep to the top, as the usual journey was 3 ringgit in the funicular, which unfortunately had been taken out of service last week after 70 years operating on the slopes.

So, we made the most of the peace and quiet of the gardens and went for an exploration of the grounds.  During this venture we happened across the resident monitor lizard and family of monkeys, a cheeky bunch, after any food they could lay their hands on!  After escaping their clutches and spending ample time wandering through this oasis of calm we jumped back on a bus back to the city.

Tonight, we avoided the temptation of heading to the 'Old Trafford burger bar' (only kidding we are much more cultured than that!!), and instead went to a tandoori kitchen for a delicious paper chicken curry with naan and mango lassi - a steal at 2gbp a head!!  YUM!
