So, as we had missed Tully yesterday we back tracked there this morning with a short de-tour and Ben got his next picture with a ‘big thing’. This time the Big Gum Boot, which stands at 7.5 metres tall, to commemorate the highest annual rainfall reported in Tully…which makes it the wettest town in Australia!
After Ben had finished having fun in the big gum boot we drove to Mission Beach, through a rainforest area that is renowned for it’s cassowaries. We were amused for the duration of the drive by the road warning signs…our favourite is below.
Ben was lucky enough to have a photo opportunity with a 2nd ‘big thing’ in one day, this time a big cassowary!
When we arrived at Mission Beach we did a short 5km hike through the beach side rainforest to Clump Point Jetty, where we saw several HUGE spiders….anyone afraid in the slightest of spiders look away now, as this one was bigger than the palm of our hand!!
Mission Beach is famous for it’s ‘Jump the Beach’…which got misinterpreted by Nicola! The real ‘jump the beach’ can be seen in the distance of the 2nd photo…skydiving, which we are saving for New Zealand.
We headed back to our camp site after lunch, and have been sat enjoying the sun, and a cold Pepsi.
