This morning after breakfast at the van, (and our morning visitor) we packed up and rejoined the Kennedy Highway heading back out to the coast.
A little detour to the awesome Barron Gorge and Falls in Kuranda was well worth it, as the sheer scale of the views from our rainforest walk were amazing.
After a wander around town we jumped back in the van for the last little bit of the drive down from the highlands into Cairns. We had a quick stop at a viewpoint as we dropped down the steep winding road, the views out across the sea to the Barrier Reef and Cairns airport were a reminder that our big journey north was coming to an end.
Once into Cairns we travelled straight to our last campsite of the trip, the 4 star Coconut Resort…we thought we should go out in style! The afternoon was spent chilling out and getting sorted for tomorrow. By the pool, on the jumping pillow…kids stuff!!
We excelled when it came to the jumping pillow….Ben with his unbelievably straight legs jump, and Nicola in the highest jump, with the longest arm span!
Then back to the van to pack up (properly this time), and then do our last barbie…Chef Ben surpassed himself again with a steak and sweet potato chips! And, to toast the end of the journey we opened a bottle of bubbly.
And, of course….Nicola blogged! Just so you all know what we are up to!!!!
The last word of today goes to ‘The Stranger’, after being our home for the past 6 weeks, and taking us carefully through 5000kms…we thank you for being a trusty steed! We will miss you.
Incredible jumping you two!! Nicola how could you handle that enormous snake?!! I needed a stiff drink after seeing that!!
ReplyDeleteLove to you both from Sylvia and Ed
