Our first night back in the van, and we were okay! The hardest part was the mattress, after 4 nights on a very comfy one it was very noticeable to have a thinner, harder one. But hey, looking on the bright side we both slept okay.
After a leisurely breakfast at the camp kitchen and a wander round the lovely grounds we packed the van up, Ben said farewell to his new friend, who didn’t want to say '”Goodbye”, just “Hello”…constantly!
We were on the road for 8:45am, and drove across to the coastal roads, hitting the pretty town of Caloundra first. Stopping for a quick Mc-Wifi stop and a coffee we went through town to Dicky Beach…possibly the most heavily patrolled surf beach we had visited on the trip so far!
Back on the road, with the storm clouds gathering (on the “Sunshine Coast”…oh the irony!), we bypassed Mooloolaba and Maroochydore and headed straight for Noosa Heads. Taking the coast road the scenery was pretty, and as it was the end of the public holiday the crowds had disappeared.
We arrived into Noosa at lunch time, but as there was a food and drink festival going on parking was hard, so we stopped at Noosa Junction for a wander and pie…possibly the best pie in Australia to date – chicken and camembert.
A drive up to the lookout above town gave us great views across Noosa Woods, Noosa River and Main Beach, however as you can see from the photos the clouds were gathering.
Back on the road we rejoined the highway heading north, stopping at Gympie the gold rush town before taking the road to Tin Can Bay. The petite town next to the better known Rainbow Beach is quiet and beautiful and also has morning visits from wild dolphins. We pulled up to Tin Can Bay Tourist Bay and put the tent up for the night and had a beer, as the rain had moved in for the night.
