Tuesday – Magnetic Island to Kurrimine Beach (263km)

The time had come to say goodbye to the lovely Magnetic Island, after a quick shower and breakfast  we packed up our bags and checked out, catching the bus back to the ferry terminal at Nelly Bay.  We sat up on the top deck, and as we set off realised why everyone else had left us alone up there…it was a fair bit windy!

After a quick 20 minutes journey we were back at the Breakwater Terminal in Townsville and were reunited with ‘The Stranger’.  We had a couple of stops in town to pick up supplies and then hit the Bruce Highway heading north (again).  As we left Townsville we were reminded our big road trip was coming to an end as the distance to Cairns was now only 340kms!

We stopped a few times on route up the coast, the best view was out over Hinchinbrook Island (below).

We had to bypass a stop at Tully as there had been a bad accident and part of the highway was closed, so instead we drove straight through to our campsite for the next 2 nights: Kurrimine Beach campsite.  The couple who run the place are SO friendly and even gave us a locals discount!!  So we put the mossie repellent on, as there are literally hundreds of the little buggers and had a beer at the camp kitchen.
