Saturday – strangely drawn to Magnetic Island

After a late night (by camp standards) for us last night with the locals from Saunders Beach we were up bright and early this morning!  5:30am and we were stirring and by 5:45am we were stood on the beach waiting eagerly for the sunrise, which if our sense of direction was not deceiving us we thought would be right over the see next to Magnetic Island.  The sky got lighter and the clouds transitioned through all manner of stunning colours; we waited for nearly an hour before the sun finally made an appearance!

After the sun came up we had a cup of coffee at the van and packed up ready for our little adventure across the water.

Today, after a couple of pit stops to pick up provisions we checked the van into a top class parking lot (well kind of…more like the ferry terminal car park), and got ourselves 2 return tickets to Magnetic Island.  Just 8km from the mainland the catamaran journey was quick and smooth.  We then hopped on a bus to Bungalow Bay Koala Village, a hostel right in the middle of the bush.  Our home for the next 3 nights was to be our own private bungalow.

After a relax at the bungalow, and some lunch in the camp kitchen we went out for a wander along the beach, trying to spot the supposedly abundant wildlife that lives here.

We spotted lots of different birdlife, most of which were too quick to catch on camera; and also saw hundreds of butterflies.

Back at the bungalow we sat reading on the porch and had dinner with the possums!
