Tuesday – Geraldine to Spencerville (Christchurch)

Ben treated us to a gourmet breakfast this morning – English muffins, scrambled egg and bacon…yum!  We then hit the road, taking the scenic route 72 through open country, with the beautiful Southern Alps in view for the majority of the trip.

As we drove down the quiet road, we hit a NZ road block – a couple of hundred sheep being herded down the main highway!

There was no way around them…so we figured we would follow the locals example and drive straight through!

Definitely an experience, and well done to Ben (today’s driver) for not knocking any over!

A quick stop for coffee at Rakaia Gorge, and then onwards to Waimakariri Gorge for lunch.  As the weather was quite drizzly we put off a planned walk at Rakaia Gorge and instead pressed on to our destination for the day – Spencerville, just north of Christchurch.

We spent a lovely evening with friends Tim, Emma and baby Zak at their home in Spencerville – thanks guys we felt thoroughly spoilt and had a lovely evening catching up!
