7am alarm this morning…yawn! We had a long drive ahead of us, as we planned to stop at Napier tonight, some 300+kms north of Wellington.
We left the capital city early, being hit from all sides by strong winds and rain. The journey north took us up the Kapiti Coast, skirting the Tasman Sea, and then inland to Palmerston North.
We stopped at our halfway destination of Woodville, which some of you may remember was home to the previously visited ‘Yummy Mummy’s Cheesecakes’…which we obviously visited again!
We treated ourselves to a delicious lunch (quiche, mince pie and sandwich…not cheesecake!), and bought a couple of cheesecakes for tonight’s pudding.
We then continued our drive north to Napier, arriving mid afternoon for a walk around the famous historic precinct. Napier is known predominantly for it’s art deco influenced architecture, which was adopted for the rebuilding project following the 1931 earthquake which obliterated the majority of the city.
We then took a drive up Bluff Hill to admire the stretching views across Napier Port, and north to Gisbourne.
A short drive out of the city and we arrived at our campsite, Bay View Snapper Holiday Park…our first night in the van with our +1!
We parked up and made the most of the mild weather, taking a stroll along the beach and drinking a cuppa on our picnic bench.
Dinner in the van, and a night of reading and listening to music…read tomorrow’s blog to see how everyone got on!!
