Today we decided to spend the morning getting over the 3am start yesterday, and after a lay in headed out to familiarise ourselves with the City. First stop being the information desk at the sky tower (at 328 metres the tallest structure in the Southern hemisphere), where we picked up millions of free booklets on everything Kiwi and bought tickets for a Rugby League match this Sunday.
We then hit one of Auckland’s main shopping streets and made our first ‘sensible’ winter clothing purchases; Nicola a duck down jacket, and Ben a merino base layer. In the shopping mood we went to the pick of the malls and Ben bought a thermal hat, Nicola thermal socks and a pair of jeans. Here we are sporting our new purchases, all at a bargainous 50% off…and with a great exchange rate we are quids in!!
We then pulled ourselves away from the shopping streets/malls and went for a look at the harbour complex.
Next stop the supermarket for some food for tonight, and then back to the hostel for some reading up on tomorrows coast to coast walk!
