The rain had been pounding down all night, and the ground was saturated…we set off from the campsite in the damp gloomy weather and hoped that as we neared the coast it would brighten.
First stop was Te Kuiti, famous for being the shearing capital of the world…so who could resist a picture with the 7 metre, 7 1/2 tonne ‘Big Shearer’?!
As we reached the coast the weather hadn’t picked up, and after a little stop for a hot chocolate and biscuit we continued south to New Plymouth. We checked into our campsite for the next 2 nights, the Belt Road Holiday Park, and parked up on our pitch…overlooking the Tasman sea, Lee Breakwater and…the NP power station!
As the rain had stopped we walked into the centre of town along the coastal walkway and marvelled at the strange ‘windwand’, a bendy structure that towers over the pathway.
This evening we have treated ourselves to delicious, freshly caught fish (and chips) at the local ‘Seafood on the Beach’…which, just to clear matters up, is not on the beach, but next to the power station, but does do seafood!
The last word of today goes to all the Dads (especially ours), we hope you have a lovely Fathers Day!!!
