We had talked nicely to the camp site manager and got Sky 2 installed on the site TV, which is the only channel in NZ to screen all of the world cup matches. So, the alarm was on for 6:15am, and Ben was up and watching the England match in his ‘lazyboy’ chair (Nicola stayed in bed until half time)…which she was soon told was just as well as the first half was dire!
We had a bacon and egg roll at half time, and cringed as we watched the second half. As the full time whistle was blown we then had to ‘get up’ and start our day…this took awhile as we both felt deflated after watching that performance! We sat reading for a bit before going out, and the friendly campsite cap was adamant that Nicola was not going to read to the bottom of the page!
After a quick walk around Otorohanga (the Kiwiana capital of NZ)..…
we drove to Waitomo…and found a novel way of cheering ourselves up! At ‘The Shearing Shed’, and yes folks you guessed it, they shear angora rabbits. If anyone is at all squeamish turn away now…below is a before and after shot! And honestly, the bunnies seemed completely happy to be strapped into the rack like device and trimmed.
As it was a pleasant afternoon we then did the 5km Waitomo walk to the Ruakuri scenic reserve, where we passed through a mixture of farmer’s fields and natural limestone tunnels.
