Got the river express boat to Pak Khlong market which sold a huge selection of fruit, vegetables and the most beautiful flowers for a fraction of the prices you would pay at home!
We then followed the suggested walking tour in our guidebook that took us through the heart of Little India, and along to Chinatown. We entered Chinatown through the infamous Sampeng Lane which on all accounts was the 'pickpockets paradise'...luckily we had our pockets thoroughly secured and entered. It was a real eye opener, with huge stalls selling everything you could possibly want, as Ben called it '1km of pure tat'! The roads were barely wide enough to squeeze the shoppers along, and with that traders jostled past with their wares and motor bikes hurried through in a cloud of exhaust fumes.
We then strolled down the Yaowarat Road and had lunch from various street stalls selling a selection of delicious Dim Sum.
From there we headed to Wat Traimit and onto Hua Lampong train station (the main station in Bangkok) to get the metro and then Skytrain to Siam where we went to experience the Thai cinema! As always 'when in Rome' we remembered to stand for the Thai national anthem, which was played after the trailers and just before the film started. Sadly, we didn't know the words so could not sing along with the other patrons!
After watching Sherlock Holmes, cor blimey, we got the Skytrain and river boat back to the guesthouse.
Tonight we are going for a bite to eat before coming back to pack up for our last night in Bangkok. Tomorrow we have an 11:35am flight to catch to Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Glad to see Woof Woof and Mister Polar are really helping! I'm sure Joe and Maisie will be thrilled to see them watching you Nicola!

Hello Uncle Ben and Auntie Nicola
ReplyDeleteWoof Woof seems to be helping you more than Mister Polar because his paws are on the computer. I like looking at all your photos, especially the train and boat pictures. I want to know what the little three-wheeled vehicles are called on the busy road picture. Have you had a ride in one?
lots of love
Joseph
Hello Joseph,
ReplyDeleteAsk your daddy to show you Woof Woof and Mr Polar's photos on Facebook, they have their own photo album where you can see what they have been doing.
The three wheeled vehicles are called tuk-tuks - we have been riding around in one all day here in Cambodia - we even have our own driver called Pim.
Love,
Uncle Ben & Auntie Nicola
