Our last day in Wanaka proved to be a lazy one. After wandering around the town, browsing the countless gift shops we opted to take in a movie at Cinema Paradiso.
A small eccentric independent cinema showing a mix of big blockbusters and art house flicks we had heard a lot about this place. As we walked in to the cinema/cafe and bought our tickets we perused the intermission menu – which you could order from before the film started, to eat during the half time break.
We made our way through to the small cinema, no bigger than a small hall and took our pick of the seats, which included vintage style cinema seats, old lounge chairs, sofas and a Morris Minor.
We fell into a comfy large sofa and relaxed, ready for the film to start.
Now, as we had already seen our ‘picks’ in the last couple of weeks we were left with a limited choice, and as both of us had sworn never to go and see a ‘Twilight’ film we opted for ‘Knight and Day’, a Cruise/Diaz action thriller.
As the projector started rolling we sank into ‘film mode’, and tried to ignore the delicious smells wafting under the door from the kitchen – half time cookies are infamous here!
So, if you haven’t guessed yet…we just had to experience these delicious cookies ourselves during the intermission. And, to accompany them Ben had a bottle of local ale, and Nicola a glass of local pinot noir.
We left asking '”what more could you want from a cinema?”
Josie…even the toilets were well decorated!!
