Friday - Wanaka

The weather was glorious this morning, a completely different picture to the one the weatherman had painted the day before!  Although it was freezing the sun was shining and there was not a cloud in the sky.  We took advantage of having no rain and Nicola cut Ben’s hair whilst sat outside the van.

After lunch we drove out to a unique place called Puzzling World!

A creation of Stuart Landsborough, who had hand crafted this place of illusion since the 70s.  Outside we were greeted by Wanaka’s very own Leaning Tower, with a clock that had started at midnight 2000…going backwards into the 20th century.

Next stop was the room of 3D holograms, and the hall of following faces, where 68 giant famous faces follow you around the room.

Our favourite though was the Ames Forced Perspective room, with the illusion techniques used in the Lord of the Rings films to create tall and little people.

Believe it or not, we are both stood in the same room together…just a few metres apart!

The room that made you feel slightly sick was the Tilted House, which made your body and mind play tricks with you.

We are actually both standing upright, and not leaning in any direction.

Last stop before leaving was the toilets, set in a Roman Bath House.

Across the road was the imposing Mount Iron, which we decided to climb to admire the view over Wanaka.

After completing the 1:30 hour loop track we headed back to the campsite for the evening, and were visited once again by our favourite ‘camp cat’!
