Wednesday – Raglan to Otorohanga

This morning as we lay in bed and gazed out the open window the sky was clear blue and the air crisp and chilly…what a stunning morning!!

As we drove out of the camp ground, passing the small airfield next door and crossing the bridge to the mainland (the campsite and airfield were on a small spit of land across the water from town) we stopped for a quick picture.

We took the coastal road north to Whale Bay, a renowned surf spot…and this morning the good weather had brought them all out!

Retracing our drive we stopped at Manu Bay, another famous surfing spot…again the waves were packed with keen surfers waiting for the perfect break.

At Wainamu beach we didn’t spot any windsurfers or kite surfers (which we had read frequent this beach), instead just a couple of dog walkers.

Back in Raglan town we walked around the harbour, and down the main high street, passing our drinking den of the previous night, the Harbour View Hotel.

We set off from Raglan late morning and took the short drive to Otorohanga and checked into the town holiday park, our accommodation for the next 4 nights!  Why the long stay we hear you ask…well, put www.waitomo.co.nz into the web and look at the Tumu Tumu Toobing tour, and the 4 hour Lost World tour…that is what we will be doing Thursday and Friday this week!

Needless to say we had an easy and early night before our black water rafting adventure tomorrow!!
