Wednesday - Blue Mountains to Hunter Valley (305kms)

We were up bright and early, showered in the communal block and ate breakfast beside the van, the open road beckoned and we knew that there was a long drive ahead today.

We joined the Great Western Highway, stopping at a couple of viewpoints on the way to Blackheath; we admired Valley View from Evan's Lookout, and Horseshoe Falls and Bridal Veil Falls from Govett's Leap.  The views over the valley were truly spectacular.

Back on the road and we had changed direction now, starting to head North East towards our final destination of the day the Hunter Valley.  After a stop at a roadside rest area in a town called Windsor for lunch we swopped drivers and Nicola did the last 150km stretch north.  As we headed out of Windsor we realised that the petrol was getting quite low, and it was then that we also realised we were on a road that passed nothing!  It turned into the longest 150kms of our lives as the petrol gauge rested on empty for the last 30kms of the journey...we have definitely learnt our lesson when it comes to keeping the fuel topped up!

Refuelled and ready to go we drove the final stretch to a town called Broke, where we were going to camp that night.  It was a lovely camp site next to a river, and gave us our first taste of wild camping...trees, stars and 1 toilet!  We parked up at 3:30pm and had a nice cold beer from our eski.

That evening we cooked pasta and sat watching the stars, listening to the ipod with our mosquito coil burning!
