Friday...everybody now..."Neighbours, everybody needs good Neighbours"

Yes, you guessed right, we partook in a tour to the childhood/teenage viewing staple of 'Neighbours'!!  An early start took us to the tour office down the street where we were picked up by the official Neighbours tour bus...which we couldn't miss, so no chances of getting on the wrong tour bus!

A short ride out into the Melbourne suburbs took us to Erinsborough High, and then a rare treat (which was not included in the tour price) a visit to the set to see Carpenters Mechanics, Grease Monkeys, the Bric a Brac shop, the bus stop (yes we had pictures even outside the bus stop!), and Erinsborough car sales.  Phew what a whirlwind of photo opportunities, but hang on a minute, the best was yet to come...Ramsey Street itself was next stop!

A short ride away took us to Pin Oak Court in Vermont South, or as we better know it Ramsay Street...get ready for the cheesey photos below, you have been warned!

After spending plenty of time perusing the street and keeping the 24 hour security guard occupied (he had a keen eye on everyone making sure they weren't invading the properties), we left for St Kilda, a beach side town a short drive away.

On arrival we were met by an ex Neighbours star, that we were both very pleased to say that after not watching the show for a couple of years, we both recognised...sadly we have no idea what his real name is but he played the part of Connor O'Reilly.

After a quick photo we jumped back on the bus and drove back to the hostel for lunch.  A quick refuel with sandwiches and juice at the hostel and we were back out again, this time on a walking tour of the City.  As it was a pleasant enough day we wandered past several of the Cities landmarks including the Town Hall, Manchester Unity building (pictured below top), Melbourne Athenaeum (pictured below bottom), 19th century townhouses where 1800s Doctors made their living, and the impressive Chinatown.

We made a quick stop in Federation Square to pick up an icecream each, and then headed off along the banks of the Yarra river to see the City from the Southbank.  The Southbank which was now a modern complex of office buildings and restaurants had a sad history really; the native aboriginals  had all but been wiped out by the emigrating Europeans due them bringing diseases and destroying their habitats.  For example there used to be a big waterfall on the banks of the Yarra where we stood, however it had been destroyed to allow ships up to deliver to Banana Wharf.

After exploring the Docklands we headed back to the hostel to do our laundry and have dinner...a quiet night tonight as we are hoping to be up tomorrow to grab some tickets for the Aussie rules Football game between Melbourne and Collingwood at the MCG!
