So, we figured it was about time we got to sample some of Australia's delicious and famous wine...let the wine tour commence!
After completely forgetting about daylight savings time and getting up at 7am (rather than 8am) we had 2 hours to kill before being picked up by our tour bus.
On the time finally arriving we met our tour guide for the day and started the drive out of Melbourne past a familiar sounding town called Doncaster, to the Yarra Valley wine region.
Our first stop was the Yarra Farm Vineyard at 10:30am in the morning, after being taught how to sample and spot a good wine we started on our wine tasting experience...several tasting sessions later we were on the water, as neither of us were accustomed to drinking at this time of the morning!
Onwards though, and back on the bus we visited vineyard number 2 - Rochford, a slightly bigger establishment, but still classed as a boutique winery. Again, we sampled everything on offer and then headed to the restaurant to eat our delicious (free) meal of beef in red wine gravy (yum)...and then back to the bar for more tasting!!
Vineyard number 3 was Yering Station, and yes you guessed it - more tasting!
Last but not least was a stop at Domaine Chandon (as in Moet and Chandon) for a tasting session at their Champagne/sparkling wine vineyard. Nicola tried a sneaky way of trying to get 'outback' to the storage area to grab a couple of bottles of the fizzy stuff, but failed miserably!
Back on the bus we drove back into Melbourne and went for a wander around the City at night (after a quick stint in McDonalds making use of their free WiFi to call home). It was very picturesque seeing the place all lit up at night.
